Silver Lake Sand Dunes
The Silver Lake dune are some of the largest shifting sand dunes in the world and every summer, hordes of dune buggy and 4x4 enthusiasts from across the midwest descend on the area for thrilling chilling rides. The TV show would offer an insight into the whole culture of sand dune buggy rides. Think "West Coast Chopper" meets "The Travel Channel" and you get the idea! See us about ideas on how to make this fun in the sun summer show a reality!

No News Isn't Always Good News
Consider a revealing 30-minute piece on how local news gets made. From assignment editors to reporters hundreds of decisions are made daily that affect what you see on local TV news. If "it bleeds, it leads" is true then why is it true and what is the impact that it has on our community's view of itself? Is the perception we have of ourselves given to us by the local news really reality? If so, does the perception benefit or harm us? Or is it really all just fluff? And what about newspapers? How is the Grand Rapids Press put together and how many stories appearing in the Grand Rapids Press are "used" as stories for the local TV news? (They actually do "cull" yesterday's paper for ideas for TV news stories.) A fascinating topic. This could be a "reality" television show. Tom can help get you in the door at the local affiliates and help you lay out the process of this view behind-the-scenes. You can also talk to experts who watch the news for what it says and doesn't say and ask the question, does local news, because of what it portrays itself to be, take on any added social responsibility for the information it brings into our living rooms, or is it just another voice among so many? All this in 30 minutes? Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe more than one 30 minute show, but it's your show and WKTV is where you can make it. To shoot video in the local newsrooms of WZZM TV-13, GR Press and WOOD TV just click on any of the links and take our class in Camera Remote Field Productions. You can also take our class on Interviewing for Video or our class on Learning Final Cut Pro. You'll be on your way to creating your own TV show! (P.S. The local newsrooms would love the attention.)
